Surface preparation:
As the Chalk paint adheres to most surfaces, sanding is not always required.
Surfaces must however be dust and oil free.
MDF Canvas and pine wood boards – Dust off with a mutton or micro-fibre cloth.
Surface may require a light sanding depending on the quality of the wood
Previously painted surfaces – Flaky paint should be sanded and smoothed. The surface wiped down with a cloth dipped in Laquer Thinner
Oiled and varnished wood – Depending on the surface, may require a light sanding. Clean well with a cloth dipped in Laquer Thinners. There are natural tannins in wood and it is recommended to seal the piece when painting dark or yellow wood, such as Pine, Teak, Imbuia, with a sealer like SVA Hard as Nails sealer. This will prevent the wood tannins bleeding through and causing a yellowing or blotchy stains to occur.
Plastic – A light sanding will be required to roughen up the surface. A wipe down with Laquer Thinner ensures a clean prepared surface.
Glass – To obtain a clean, dust and oil free surface wipe with a cloth dipped
In Laquer Thinners

Recommended Sandpaper to use 100/120 Grit

Cleaning of paint brushes and stencils
As SVA Vintage paint is ware-based, clean brushes and stencils in soapy water.
SVA stock a stencil and brush cleaner, making the clean-up much easier.

Sealing the painted projects:
Sealing is not required as the paint does not fade, but advisable in kitchen, bathrooms and areas where protection is required. Sealing the project does provide easier cleaning as the item is protected against water

Sparrow Vintage Art stocks the Hard As Nails range of sealers that is heat and water resistant. Available in three coverages, Matt, Satin and a Gloss
